[our youth ministry sponsors Hector]

At BigStuf camp, we found out about the horrible conditions of people living in other parts of the world.  We were challenged to sponsor a child through Compassion International, which would provide food, medicine, education, and a message of God's love for our child.  We chose Hector Quispe, who is from Bolivia (his picture is above).  Bolivia?  Where is that?  Click on the picture below to see a map pointing out Hector's location in this world.

Some information about Hector we have received from Compassion International is written below.  We will be writing Hector letters and he will have the opportunity to hear from him also.  As we receive letters from him, we will post them here, so that we can all see what God is doing in his life.  It costs $32 per month to sponsor Hector, so bring a $1 each week and we'll have him covered.

Name:      Hector Quispe

Birthday:  December 10, 1992

Country:   Bolivia

Community:    Zona Nueva Jerusalen

Project:   Rio Seco Student Center

Hector makes his home with his father and his mother.  Making beds, running errands and cleaning are his household duties.  His father is sometimes employed and his mother maintains the home.  There are 5 children in the family.

As a part of Compassion's ministry, Hector participates in church activities and Bible classes.  He is also in primary school where his performance is average.  Soccer, singing, and playing ball games are his favorite activities.

Hector lives in Zona Nueva Jerusalen, home to approximately 12,900 residents.  Typical houses are constructed of dirt floors, mud walls, and corrugated iron roofs.  The primary ethnic group is Aymaras and the most commonly spoken languages are Aymara and Spanish.

The regional diet consists of corn, fish, bread, beef, rice and potatoes.  A common health problem in the area is severe anemia (click on the words to see what anemia is).  Most adults in Zona Nueva Jerusalen work as street market vendors and earn the equivalent of $68 per month.  This community needs qualified teachers and improved schools.

Your sponsorship allows the staff of Rio Seco Student Center to provide Hector with Bible teaching, medical and dental checkups and recreational activities.  The center staff will also provide parent visits and informational meetings for the parents or guardians of Hector.
